Initiated in 2022 and officially registered in 2024, The Local Democracy Agency of Edremit, serves as a permanent platform for collaboration among the municipality, civil society, citizens and communities of Edremit, Türkiye. It is the first established LDA in the country. With a focus on cultural, social, and economic aspects, it encourages dialogue and experience sharing between stakeholders involved in participatory local governance. The agency supports local democracy and citizen participation, emphasising human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Its strategy aims to actively engage in initiatives like participatory budgets, citizens’ initiatives, and capacity building for local institutions. The LDA promotes intercultural dialogue, decentralised cooperation, and addresses priority areas such as Türkiye-EU relations, environmental protection, gender equality, vulnerable minorities inclusion and sustainable urban planning.
